DIY Website Design vs Local Website Designer
Web design is an exciting topic in that you can do it yourself and do a pretty decent job with the number of tools out there like Wix or Squarespace or even wordpress.com. But that doesn’t mean all the intricacies of it.
For example, I could build a house, but that doesn’t mean I know how to do it efficiently, and I don’t know how to do it to where I won’t have any issues with permitting and things of that nature.
While permitting is not a great example for web design and development, there are many things that you need to know to get your site to rank in Search Engines like Google or Yahoo. These are really important because if you have a website and nobody can find you, it’s really useless to have the website at all.
So that’s why we focus on making search engine optimization a fundamental part of our web design plan. We build websites for people all over the world. But our main focus is to build them in our local community though, because we feel that helping local businesses will help our local community and, in turn, help us have a more rich and fulfilling life.
Now that sounds excessive, but it’s really not. Helping in your local community is really what it’s all about. Now having an impact on the overall world, your region, or even your state or country is great. But at the same time, we really want to focus on small businesses and growing them into multi-million dollar businesses right here at home.
What are some of the benefits of local web design?
Working with a local web design company has a number of benefits and very few drawbacks. As long as you pick high quality full-service development company that can build you a user-friendly custom website.
There are a ton of startups in the digital marketing agency world but that doesn’t mean they are all good or bad.
Working with a local NC Web Developer can ensure you know who you are working with.
You can find local references and talk to those references about the companies development services and content marketing.
If you are switching to a full-service web design agency you’ll want to make sure their web hosting has an up-time guarantee.
The biggest advantage about local web design is they are members of your community and this typically makes it easier for them to create marketing strategies that will reach your local community.
This is especially important if you are a local business and aren’t a primarily e-commerce company.
What is the best way to find a local web designer?
There’s no right or wrong way to find a local web designer. If you find your web designer via Google you know the company knows a thing or two about SEO.
If you really like their website and the websites in their portfolio then you know that the company is good at building a solid user experience.
If you found the company you’re looking for via an advertisement you know their marketing services and online presence are working.
If that doesn’t work then look at their years of experience or reach out to one of the customers in their portfolio and find out what kind of work the company does for yourself!
Vetting a North Carolina Web Designer
So you’re looking for someone to work with for your new web project locally? It’s important to look for a few things.
First and foremost, are they truly local? Trying to figure out if the company you’re looking at is actually local can be done in several ways.
One of the ways is, do they have a local office that’s not a UPS store or a mailbox? Often, people will list an address on the website, but it’s just a mailbox. It’s not an actual place of business.
With that being said, Lynx Creative Group does not have an address because we do not have an office. We’re a group of individuals who create a marketing company, so we don’t gather in one location. This lowers the overall cost to operate our business because web development and design can be done from anywhere in the world, which is why sometimes it’s harder to determine if you’re really working with a local company.
Just having a local area code and a phone number does not mean that they are actually local. I think most people understand that in 2021, but it needs to be said.
The easiest way to determine if you are dealing with an actual local company is to meet with your designer. Meeting with your web design services company ensures that you know who you’re working with. If you don’t have a recommendation or haven’t got a referral from a friend or family member for this company, then you can meet them face-to-face and develop your own opinion on who you’re working with and the kind of company that they represent.
Check your Web Designers Website
To determine if you’re working with a local company, check their website. If their website is full of spammy keywords and only mentions towns and larger metropolitan areas, that could be a sign that this is not a local company.
However, don’t be overzealous about towns and locations, as our site lists towns in the county that we primarily serve, and it’s perfectly normal. But if the name of the designer is XTOWNWEBDESIGN, that could be a red flag.
For example, we focus on web design for Clayton, NC, because it’s a larger population area, which means there are more businesses and potential customers. That makes sense from a search engine optimization perspective, but that doesn’t mean that we’re local (but we are).
If you notice that the page doesn’t talk about any of the smaller towns in the area, it may not be a local company.
This brings us to our third way to tell if you’re actually working with a local North Carolina digital marketing company.

If they have a ton of small businesses that you know in your area, then the chance of them being an actual local company is quite high. If you need to, reach out to those business owners and ask them how their experience with the company.
We would love it if people did that because we believe we treat our customers right and that they would hopefully give us a glowing recommendation.
So after going over all of these topics, if you are still uneasy or uncomfortable or don’t know if you’re truly working with a local website design company, chances are if it feels too good to be true or something doesn’t feel right, it’s time to back out.
If they don’t respond to your emails or don’t pick up the phone or sound like the dialect of people in your area, then that’s probably an issue.
For example, if you called our phone number and got somebody with an Indian accent, you may question whether we are truly a local company. Or if they talk like they were from Raleigh, Chapel, Hill, California, or New York, you may wonder if they’re local. Now, of course, people move around, and people from other countries move to the US and then are local, but it’s just something to consider when trying to make that decision.
So with all of this in mind, hopefully, this will help you determine if the company you are considering for your next web development project is actually a North Carolina web designer.
